Trip To Petra
(Click On Pictures For Larger View)
With a wakeup call at 6 am we met for breakfast at 6:30 and were on the bus at 7:30 bound for Petra.
Here is our bus driver Munzer on the right and our tour guide Tony Rumi. Tony was a top notch guide and a Christian as well.
Mike Landry, Pastor of Sarasota Baptist church, led us in a devotion on the bus as we began out trip.
Petra is a collection of bariel places carved into the solid rock. There is only one way in and out of this valley. It is about a 5 mile round trip. There are horses and carts avaikable to help if needed. It is not known where the people of this valley lived but there are still studies and digs going on to solve the mysteries.

More pictures to come.

Arriving in Jordan
(Click On Pictures For Larger View)
It was a very long night. The flight took eleven hours. The food was not very good. It was the Royal Jordanian Airlines. We had breakfast just before we landed at about 10 am our time and 5 pm Jordan time. Here we are in the Amman Jordan airport. The only problem was one of our group lost his baggage. Otherwise everything went well at the airport.
We all got on our tour bus to go to the Regency Palace hotel. Our leader, Pastor Bill Hild from First Baptist church filled us in on our supper and get-together later tonight. It took about a half hour to get to the hotel. Soon we were all checked in and went to the buffet supper here at the hotel.
The supper here was a big step up from that on the airplane. After supper we all got togather as Bill filled us in on the plans for tomorrow. Now we must try to straighten out our jet lag.

The Journey Starts

We were about one hour late leaving Tampa airport for JFK. The flight went well. Here we are at the JFK airport getting ready for our flight. Everything went well. We boarded at 11pm and had supper and tried to go to sleep.
After coffee this morning, Mike Delaney took me to Sarasota Baptist Church where I caught the bus with the First Baptist people already on it. We rode to the Tampa airport. I got acquainted with Bill Dunham and found out we have a lot in common.

Reason for this blog
Stay tuned to this blog. I will try to update it each day of my trip and include pictures I have taken that day. I have been told that I will have access to the internet most of the time I am there. I also plan to keep my web pages updated. Anyone with any pictures that could be used in any of my websites, please send them to Mathes@OrangeAcres.net along with captions.
